Message from the President Jose Molina

LLA President Jose Molina
¡Bienvenidos! Welcome to the Latino Leadership Alliance of the Lehigh Valley!

2009 is already a very important year in the history of this nation, for most people it may represent the come back from one of the worst financial situations in time, for others it will be marked as the first year of government of our first African- American president in the history of this nation. But for most of us the most important issue that will mark the year will be decided by the opportunities or challenges that we face throughout the year.

In 2009 the Latino Leadership Alliance will also face big challenges. We will continue to strive in becoming the umbrella of our Latino community advocacy efforts and the forum to voice out our best ideas and efforts to improve the lives of all those who live in the Lehigh Valley, including the misrepresented and those in route to become the new American citizens

As an organization we have a challenge in front of us. We as Latinos need to refocus our resources in developing leaders. We are no longer the smallest group in town and everyone knows by now that there is a brown, yellow and red color between the black and white of the past.

It is on all of us, the Latinos of the new millennium, to find the doors of communication and respect within ourselves and then step up the call of equality and fairness that we deserve from the rest of society! We must claim and demand our place in history. Not just any place, not the very last or least valuable; but a place in equal terms as any son and daughter of any other privileged group. But as part of the equation we also have to assume our responsibilities as citizens of integrity and good values. “Yes we can” and we must.

As strong and motivating as a slogan is, last summer I was encouraged and intrigued at same time to hear and see how our most repeated Latino slogan; “¡Si se puede!” became the center piece of motivation and celebration in president Obama’s political explosion to stardom! We only lent the slogan to him for the moment! But the truth is that we are ready to be stars too. We have the numbers in population, we have the brains and energy of our youth, and we just need to take charge. For our children, for our elderly and our families, we must take charge and responsibility now! We need to take advantage of our education system and open up the doors of success with progressive leadership and strategic support for our students.

Let’s rise to the challenge of unity by embracing together so many common goals at hand and then at the end of the day we’ll sit down again in a family common prayer to rejoice in the lives of our children who embraced their paths to success, one step at a time. Closer each day to equality, fairness and respect to all human kind!  We still have a dream and we know there is a map to reach the promised mountain; now it’s just a matter of following the cheers of those who made it first
“Yes we can! ¡Si se puede!”
