Bethlehem Area Public Library

1. The Bethlehem Area Public Library is hiring a part-time Technician at our South Side Branch. The position is 26 hours per week and pay is $17.37 per hour. PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are required. Working one night per week and every other Saturday is required. Full job description is below. QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree or 2 years college education plus one year library experience
  2. Ability to work well with the public
  3. Reference skills, with proficiency in internet and online database searching
  4. Proficiency with the use of computers
  5. Bilingual with fluency in Spanish and English, verbal and written, preferred but not required
  6. Clerical skills
  7. Comfort with planning and hosting library events for children and adults
  8. Ability to listen and clearly communicate with patrons in person, on the telephone, and via email

JOB SUMMARY

The Technician’s responsibilities at the Branch include general library tasks, reference duties (including online research,) and other special projects as assigned by the Branch Manager.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides reference and reader’s advisory assistance to patrons
  2. Provides basic assistance to patrons using the internet and the library e-resources, as needed
  3. Promotes library services to the community through tasks such as creating library flyers and posting on social media platforms
  4. Performs general duties at the circulation desk
  5. Assists Adult Services and Youth Services Technicians with events
  6. Other duties as assigned by supervisor

2. The Bethlehem Area Public Library has an opening for a part-time Technician at our new Satellite Bookmobile, located in Fountain Hill. This is a stationary location and does not require driving the Bookmobile. The position is 16 hours per week and pay is $17.37 per hour. PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are required. Working some nights and Saturdays is required. Full job description is below. Supervisor: Head of Outreach

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A two or four-year college degree in applicable subject area is preferred. Or, at least one year of library experience with a combination of education and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, clerical, and technological skills
  2. Ability to think and work independently, take initiative, and troubleshoot problems remotely
  3. Must possess excellent customer service skills, which includes the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with patience, friendliness, and courteousness; a desire to help others and reach out into the community
  4. Ability to meet physical and environmental demands of the position – sitting for long periods of time, lifting and moving materials while loading and unloading, physical mobility to reach all shelving, brief exposure to outside weather conditions

JOB SUMMARY

This position at the new Satellite Bookmobile location in Fountain Hill is a combination of circulation, information, and outreach services to the community. The ideal candidate will serve as an exemplary representative of the library to creatively and effectively promote the library’s mission and services.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform opening and closing procedures on the FH Bookmobile
  2. Greet and assist library users employing effective customer service skills
  3. Perform general circulation routines as appropriate: check-in, check-out, and renewal of materials, processing applications for and issuing new library cards, processing materials, including collection of fines/fees
  4. Assist patrons in locating library materials, including reader’s advisory, interlibrary loan, and new material requests
  5. Assist patrons with questions, provide assistance or instruction utilizing the library’s ILS, website, databases, or other technology as required
  6. Deal with patron complaints and problems patiently and decisively
  7. Respect the confidentiality of library users and records
  8. Recognize and address the diverse nature of the library’s patrons and community
  9. Participate in the overall neatness and interior appearance of the bookmobile by accurately shelving materials, performing light household tasks, and maintaining attractive and timely information displays
  10. Load and offload materials to and from the main library in a timely manner for proper transfer
