Join us for the ground breaking of a monument dedicated to the 65th Infantry Regiment the Borinqueneers!
When: Tuesday, April 13, 2021 National Borinqueneers Day
Time: 4:00 PM
Where: On the Greenway between Webster and Taylor streets.
Come and meet family members of the 65th Infantry Regiment. The 65th Infantry was the only segregated military division with Puerto Ricans – later, other Spanish-speakers, including Mexican Americans, were included in this division. The Borinqueneers were the last segregated Army unit in history of the U.S. that served during all global wars of the 20th century and were the last unit to fight with fixed bayonets against a division of Communist China during the Korean War. On April 13, 2016, President Obama signed a bill honoring the 65th Infantry with a medal. In January 2021, Congress named April 13th as the National Borinqueneers Day!
